A dog that suffered severe burns in a wildfire has been adopted by the vet who helped save his life.
The guard dog was rescued by firefighters who found him chained to a tree at a homeless camp during a fire in West Palm Beach, California, two years ago.
It suffered third-degree burns and howled with pain when rescuers rushed him to Jupiter Pet Emergency and Specialty Centre.
The dog was given the name 'Smokey' by firefighters.
Dr Katelyn Thomas and colleague Dr Latimer found Smokey suffering with severe burns on his body and rear legs.
The pooch required multiple blood transfusions and daily baths, according to Wamiz.
After two months of treatment, Smokey began to show signs of recovery and became comfortable around people in the veterinary clinic.
Fire Rescue Captain Gregg Gordon, who rescued the dog from the fire, decided to help by fostering Smokey.
Later, Dr Thomas adopted Smokey and says the pooch is now living an amazing life, reported CBS news.
A video shows Smokey jumping up at Dr Latimer and wagging his tail madly in the vet's arms during one of his recovery appointments.
