Kellie Harrington's mother revealed she did not watch her daughter fight in her Olympic final and stayed out the back garden during the bout.
There were jubilant scenes in Portland Row as the Dubliner produced the best boxing of her career as she beat Beatriz Ferreira by unanimous decision.
And Harrington's mother revealed that she stayed out the back garden in Portland Row while her daughter fought for Olympic Gold.
Speaking on RTE, Yvonne Harrington said: "I'm so proud of her, I'm so delighted for her. She done it for all of us.
"All she wanted was to see the people smiling and make people happy and that was it and she did it. "
And when asked about her daughter's second round performance, she said: "I don't know, I didn't watch it. I stayed out the garden out the back."
And Harrington's brother Joel said of his sister's second round performance: "Kellie done what she does, in the biggest moments on the biggest stage when others would freeze and shut, Kellie loosened up and expressed herself and won gold for her community, her county and her country.
"She's a role model for her sport, she's the flag bearer for the country and the flag bearer for her sport. Everything she gets, every ounce of it she deserves."
Harrington's other brother Christopher flew home from Iceland for the bout and said:: "Absolutely worth it, Look at the people here, it's about them and all of the community."
Harrington fought the best boxing of her career in the Olympic final as she bounced back from losing the first round to a flawless second and third round performance.
The 2018 world champion fought 2019 world champion in a thrilling and tense affair and Harrington showed her true class when the chips were down.
Harrington put on a clinic in counter punching and when her opponent piled on the pressure, Harrington stayed calm and trusted her game plan as she scooped gold.
