A Bristol woman has issued an emotional plea after a group of kittens were dumped on the side on the M5.
The abandoned animals were first spotted on the J20 roundabout near Clevedon by a passer-by over the weekend, who alerted others on Facebook.
A group led by Horfield resident Katie Spragg then drove down to the roundabout in an attempt to rescue the kittens.
"Myself and between six and eight others went down there on Sunday afternoon (May 12) to have a search," she said.
"One was already dead in the middle of the road.
"The undergrowth was very difficult to search in and the noise of the traffic drowned out anything else.
"It was like looking for a needle in a haystack."
Despite searching for several hours, the group were unable to find the remaining kittens.
Ms Spragg then posted on Facebook yesterday evening to see if the kittens had been picked up and rescued by a passer-by instead.
The post read: "Was anyone on the J20 M5 roundabout last night or early this morning and pick up any kittens that had been dumped on the roundabout?
"The original poster saw four kittens on the roundabout heading towards the slip road towards Bristol.
"Several of us searched for two hours and found one kitten who did not survive.
"My reason for asking is to see if anyone did see them and were able to rescue any of them."

The 55-year-old added she is angry and upset that the kittens had been treated in this way.
"I'm angry someone has dumped them on the motorway," she said.
"The upsetting part is there are still people who don't take them to a vet or a rescue centre, and think it's fair game to dump animals like this."
