Emotional Piers Morgan shows Kate Garraway sweet text Derek sent him about her

Piers Morgan showed colleague Kate Garraway a sweet text her husband Derek Draper had sent him when she had been in the I'm A Celebrity jungle.

The 53-year-old appeared in the Good Morning Britain studio for the first time since husband Derek was hospitalised in March with coronavirus.

At the weekend, she announced that Derek was now out of a coma - but cautioned premature celebration.

Piers, who Kate said that she had called in her darkest moments so that he could give her a "tough talk", was emotional as he found an old text Derek had sent him from when she had been in the jungle.

"This was from when you were in the jungle and Derek and I were chatting," Piers said.

"Oh my god, is this going to be broadcast-able?" Kate queried with a laugh.

"He was always so proud of you," Susanna Reid supplied.

As Kate began to tear up, Piers read out: "I said, 'Kate's a winner' - I thought you were going to win, you should have won because you were coming across as the person we know, genuine, decent, funny...

"And he said, 'Thanks Piers, she's an amazing woman. I so, so, so much want her to be the number 1 for once, she deserves that so much'.

"I was very touched by that because what he just meant was that you're so selfless and you'd put everybody else first, whether it was Derek, or the kids, or your work colleagues. I mean, that's what you are.

"And he just wanted you to win so that you'd be number 1."

Kate sighed, trying not to cry as she said: "Oh, I just hope we can get him back, Piers."
