Emotional Peter Kay thanks fans after being sent thousands of Amarillo clips from key workers

Peter Kay has thanked his fans after being sent thousands of "emotional" Amarillo clips by key workers ahead of the BBC's Big Night In.

Tonight, the 46-year-old comedy legend will be returning to TV for the first time in years as Children In Need and Comic Relief team up to raise money for charity with the star-studded event.

Peter is back joining forces with Tony Christie to recreate their 2005 Amarillo video of the 1971 song.

This time, however, it will incorporate clips of key workers marching to the famous hit as the special night celebrates unsung heroes amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Taking to Twitter, Peter asked members of the public to send in clips of themselves marching to the song and tag it with #BigNightInAmarillo.

And he was astounded at the response, which saw firefighters, binmen, nurses and care staff among the many videos send in.

He admitted that the response had left him feeling very emotional and took to Twitter to thank fans.

Peter wrote: "I wanted to say a huge heartfelt thanks to everybody who’s took the time to film themselves marching to Amarillo.

"We’ve literally received thousands. Lots of very emotional clips from nurses & care workers & key workers & shoe repairers.

"Thank you all xxx."

Also taking part in tonight's star-studded event is Catherine Tate, who has reprised her role as sulky teenager Lauren, as well as Matt Lucas and David Walliams, who have reunited for Little Britain.

Dan French is also reprising her Vicar Of Dibley role in a one-off special.

*The Big Night In airs tonight at 7pm on BBC One
