Emotional moment GP gives her elderly dad Covid jab after not seeing him for 10 months

This is the emotional moment a GP gave her dad the Covid-19 vaccination after seeing him for the first time in 10 months.

Billy Arthur, an aspiring film maker, recorded the video to document the efforts of his mum, Dr Anne Hampton, and other medical professionals.

Dr Hampton went to see her father, Chris, in his care home in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, where she was due to vaccinate 21 people in total.

She told BBC : "It was really lovely just to hold his hand."

"It was strange at first as he didn't recognise me in my PPE but when he had a good look he realised who I was."

The family, including Chris' 87-year-old wife, have had to visit him from outside a window since the start of the pandemic, and Billy had to shoot the film from outside on a balcony.

He said: "Everyone has worked so hard to get these vaccinations out. I wanted to make a film of this moment for our own family memories but also to record history. It's been emotional for me to edit and shoot."

Billy started making films when he was 16, and earned a BAFTA nomination for "My Life: Blood Sugar Brothers", which is about his brother's diabetes and was broadcast on CBBC.

On Tuesday, NHS Gloucestershire said they were confident that all care home residents will be vaccinated by this week, and those over the age of 70 and clinically vulnerable will be vaccinated by February 15.

A third of people aged over 80 have been vaccinated already, and in total 2.4 million people in the UK have received their first vaccination of either the Pfizer or Oxford jab.

The government has a list of nine priority groups it will vaccinate first, before moving onto the general population.

Seven mass vaccination hubs, hundreds of GP and hospital services as well as pharmacy-led pilot sites are being used to administer doses.

Around 14.6 million people will be vaccinated by mid-February, according to the government's targets.
