'Emotional' Linda Nolan 'astonished' by results of new health treatment

An "emotional" Linda Nolan has revealed she is trying out a brand new health treatment - and has been "astonished" by the results. The singer, who rose to fame as a member of girl group The Nolans with her sisters, gave fans an update on her treatment for lymphedema.

The 63-year-old developed the condition after having a mastectomy following her breast cancer diagnosis in 2006. She has previously shared that she has been "plagued" by it ever since but has "learned how to live with it", reports the Mirror.

Lymphedema causes swelling in the body's tissues due to a build-up of lymph fluid, which can have various causes including faulty genes or damage to the lymphatic system, according to the NHS. It can affect any part of the body but usually develops in the arms or legs and can be a side effect of cancer treatment.

However, the singer was upbeat about her latest treatment as she shared some good news on social media - adding she "can't wait" to give another update soon. In the post on Twitter, Linda wrote: "Had another great day today, trying out a brand new lymphedema treatment.

"I’m astonished by the results and a little bit emotional." She added: "Can’t wait to show you the full before and afters in a few weeks time."

Linda received messages of support from fans in response to her post. Jennifer Wright replied: "I'm so happy you have found a new treatment love, can't wait to see the results. Big hugs and lots of love xxx".

Lynne Hewitt wrote: "That is fantastic linda all the best to you xx" and Jackie Dixon commented: "That’s great news. Will make life a little easier x". Emma Heslewood added: "Thanks so good to hear. x"

The former Loose Woman panellist's breast cancer diagnosis in 2006 came six years after her older sister Anne and four years before sister Bernie were also diagnosed. Bernie tragically died with the disease in 2013, aged 52, while Anne, 72, has since received the all-clear.

Last year, Linda opened up about her battle with lymphedema and its effect on her life. In a column for the Express, she wrote: "For the past 15 years, this is something that has plagued me and now it’s gotten worse - I now have it in my right arm.

"Lymphedema is when one or both arms or legs swell up. It's caused by the removal of or damage to the lymph nodes as part of your cancer treatment. In my case, my lymph nodes were removed during my mastectomy and they were infected - which then developed into lymphedema.

"It's the reason why I always wear loose tops for the ease of getting them over my arm. There are treatments that help to reduce it and I've tried them, but you must work at it, so I have learned how to live with it."
