Emotional footage shows Scots kids medley of national songs on deserted pandemic streets

Scots kids have taken to the streets of Glasgow to perform an emotional medley of classic Hogmanay anthems.

The Performance Academy Scotland youngsters headed down the city's deserted streets to present their stunning show, expressing the disappointment of this year before building up to their hope for a brighter 2021.

Lisa Cleugh, who runs the Academy which has classes across Glasgow as well as a base in Bathgate, said after a year of cancelled shows and Zoom classes they were determined to bow out on a high.

Lisa told the Record: "We were trying to think outside the box so we thought we'd go outside to tell our lockdown story.

"We wanted to share something inspiring for 2021 for both the audience watching and for our students.

"It reflects the story that everything has been cancelled, but shares hope that the kids will get back into the theatres soon and we'll come back stronger."

The stunning performance starts with the children singing Auld Lang Syne walking down a deserted Buchanan Street.

It then cuts to the youngsters looking gutted outside the BBC and STV studios - where they would usually have been filming throughout the year - singing the classic Scots hit Caledonia.

But the kids show they aren't letting these current restrictions get them down as they finishing off dancing and singing to everyone's favourite party hit, Loch Lomond.

Lisa said: "The kids were due to be in TV adverts so it was filmed outside the television studios.

"And it's also got a 'Save The Arts' theme because we're showing that the kids just can't wait to get back.

"The deserted streets show what's been going on in 2020 which was really eerie when we were filming it - but it was also beautiful because it made the kids appreciate everything and the beauty of Glasgow without so many people around.

"The party at the end singing Loch Lomond at all four locations was to symbolise the children looking forward to better times."
