This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield struggled to get their words out as they fought back tears on Thursday's show.
The programme aired a devastating care home segment speaking to families torn apart by the pandemic, unable to be close to their loved ones in care.
Bradley Walsh appeared via video call and called the footage "heartbreaking", as a mum named Ruth was no longer allowed to see her son Sam, who has Huntington's disease, after visiting him every day for three hours for seven months before the pandemic.
Bradley apologised as he broke down in tears imagining how difficult it would be to have your loved one in a care home alone, traumatising both parties and leaving the patient to die alone.
"It's hard enough to see your... It's hard enough, I'm sorry," he paused with tears streaming down his face.
"It's hard enough to see your parents go, but if your child is going to go before you, something needs to be done, it's so upsetting," he added.
"Don't be sorry," Holly comforted him.
As the footage ended and the camera cut back to the studio, Phillip was clearly choking back tears as he battled to get his words out.
The piece described how it was not only older people who are cut off from their families, but also disabled people in care, with heartbreaking results for the patients and their families, who can only visit through a screen or window.
Viewers were left saddened by the segment too, as one tweeted: "That video broke my f**king heart #ThisMorning ".
"Heartbreaking poor family's something needs too be done carehomes have been forgotten and its not ok any body dieing on there own," wrote another.
"Thanks for that.. #ThisMorning I’m absolutely crying my eyes out!! This is so heartbreaking. More needs to be done. People need to be able to see their loved ones," penned a third.
