Wednesday morning, Michigan State basketball fans were crushed when The Athletic released a piece that heavily speculated the No. 1 player of the 2022 class, Emoni Bates, would decommit from MSU in favor of the G League. However, Bates quickly took to social media to rebut the rumors.
The story from Brendan Quinn of The Athletic explicitly said Bates was not interviewed, but that everyone around Bates who was interviewed thinks he’s going to the G League. Bates seems annoyed with speculation on his future taking place without his input.
On Instagram, Emoni said:
“If you ain’t hear come from Emoni, don’t believe it.”

So, it seems MSU fans can exhale. It seems nothing really has changed with this situation, and this was just another step in the process for Bates.
