Emmys 2024: Winners, Surprises, Tears and Behind the Scenes

MIAMI - The 75th Emmy Awards ceremony, celebrating American television excellence, was a memorable evening, with many moving moments provoked by poignant reunions for iconic shows like "The Sopranos" and "Grey's Anatomy."

"Succession" and "The Bear" with six, and "Beef" with five Emmys, swept the board.

"The Last of Us" won eight Emmys last week in the Creative Arts Emmy, which recognizes technical achievements.

Kicking off the event, Ayo Edebiri received the first award for her supporting role in "The Bear." Then came the award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, which was won by Quinta Bronson for "Abott Elementary". She received the award at the hands of legendary comedian Carol Burnett.

Hosted at Los Angeles' Peacock Theater, the evening began with a vibrant red carpet showcasing the brilliance of Latino actors, who looked as incredible as their performances in shows like "The Last of Us," "Wednesday," and "Only Murders in the Building."

Pedro Pascal, Selena Gomez, Jenna Ortega, Aubrey Plaza, Ariana de Bose, Anthony Ramos, and Domingo Coleman were not only nominees but also prominent attendees and, in some cases, presenters, reflecting the diverse talents in the industry.

The first reunion celebrated the 25th anniversary of "The Sopranos". Michael Imperioli and Lorraine Bracco. presented the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, which was won again by Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus)

Then came Pedro Pascal, who explained that he has been wearing a sling all throughout award season because of an injury to his shoulder, and then he said, "Kieran Culkin beat the shit out of me." The camera showed a very serious Culkin. It was a hilarious beat in response at Culkin´s joke to Pascal during the Golden Globes.

"RuPaul Drag Race" won its fifth Emmy. "We have released into the wild hundreds of drag queens, and they are beautiful... If a drag queen wants to read you a story at a library, listen to her because knowledge is power, and if someone tries to restrict your access to power, they are trying to scare you. So listen to a drag queen!, "said Ru Paul in reference to the restrictive Florida laws regarding the LGBTQIA community.

Elton John became an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony winner), and Joan Collins showed that you can look stunning at 90.

Arsenio Hall taking the stage was a surprise. He was received with a standing ovation. There was a "In Living Colors" reunion, a "Cheers" reunion, and a "Grey's Anatomy" reunion that went viral.

The "Ally McBeal" reunion was hilarious. It's a pity there wasn't a dancing baby. Peter Dinklage, and the throne itself represented "Game of Thrones."

The "In Memorian" segment started with Adán Canto and ended with a hair-in-the-arm-raising-tear-inducing version of the "Friends" song, while an image of Matthew Perry disolved into black. Probably it was too soon for a "Friends" reunion.
