Inside Amy Schumer, the Comedy Central sketch series created by comedian Amy Schumer won best variety sketch show at the 67th Emmy awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
This is the first year the variety sketch category was included in the Emmys. The other nominees were Drunk History, Portlandia, Saturday Night Live and Key & Peele.
Schumer’s Comedy Central show has received wide acclaim this year for skewering the media’s unfair standards for women. Several skits, including Milk Milk Lemonade, Last Fuckable Day and Girl You Don’t Need Makeup have gone viral, and Schumer has since emerged as a sort of cultural heroine, fighting for women in Hollywood and beyond.
In her speech, Schumer thanked everyone from the writers to her makeup artist. “I want to say thank you to the girl who gave me this kind of smokey eye,” she said. “I love it.”
She walked on stage to accept the award with a team of people, including her sister, who she credited in her speech as being “the only reason I’m alive”.
“We care so much about this show,” Schumer said. “Thank you so much.”
