Emmy-winners cut an off-market deal in Santa Monica

Oct. 07--Television and film director Gregory Hoblit has sold his home in Santa Monica to television producer Robert Breech for $5.6 million in a deal that closed outside the Multiple Listing Service.

Built in 1930, the renovated English Country-style home sits among a canopy of mature trees on about a third of an acre. An outdoor fireplace, a swimming pool and a dining area set beneath a vine-wrapped pergola make up the hedged and gated grounds.

Interiors featuring custom wood finishes and built-ins include a formal entry, living and dining rooms, a center-island kitchen and a den. Five tiled fireplaces are within the 4,830 square feet of living space.

Four bedrooms and four bathrooms include a master suite with a separate dressing room and a large soaking tub.

An office with a balcony sits above a detached garage.

The house came on the market in June for $6.45 million and was listed at $6.25 million before exiting the market in August. Records show it previously sold in 1988 for $1.55 million.

The two television heavyweights have combined for 24 Primetime Emmy nominations and 14 wins over the years.

Hoblit, 70, has received awards for the series "NYPD Blue," "Hill Street Blues" and "L.A. Law." His film credits include "Primal Fear" (1996), "Frequency" (2000) and "Hart's War" (2002).

Breech, 68, won Emmys as a producer on "Picket Fences," "The Practice" and "L.A. Law." His other production credits include such legal dramas as "Boston Legal" and "Ally McBeal."
