Emmy Contenders: Mayim Bialik on 'Big Bang' finale: Don't jump to conclusions

June 19--Mayim Bialik stopped by The Times recently to talk about what she calls that "double-shocker" season finale of "The Big Bang Theory" in which her character, Amy, tells Jim Parsons' Sheldon that she needs a break.

And then ... what? Sheldon has a ring? But what did that ring mean? Bialik says we shouldn't jump to any hasty conclusions.

"We don't really know what the story is with that ring," Bialik says. "And I think that's something I had to remember as an actor. We don't know what he was planning to do with it. We don't know if it was something he got from his mother. We don't know what the process was by which he acquired that and what he would think to do with it."

"People want to jump to all sorts of conclusions," Bialik continues, "because it's super-exciting to do so and they love these characters and they know them. But the neat thing about our show ... and Jim and my character's relationship is that anything can happen. And I think the finale was proof of that."

In other words, nobody knows ... except for Gollum, whom Sheldon confided in at the end.

"That's always true," Bialik affirms. "Only Gollum knows."

We also talked about fan fiction, "Little House on the Prairie" (Bialik was more of a "Three's Company" fan) and her favorite comic book movie franchise. Bialik also shared a recipe for vegan jelly doughnuts that we'd recommend you looking up when you're done watching the video.
