Emmy Contenders: 'Jane the Virgin's' Jaime Camil teases season finale

May 12--Jaime Camil, like the scene-stealing father-telenovela superstar Rogelio de la Vega he plays on the CW's "Jane the Virgin," knows how to promote the projects he's involved in.

The actor stopped by The Times for a video chat on Monday -- hours before the dramedy was set to air its season finale. And if fans of the show needed some incentive to tune in, Camil offered it.

"It's going to be full of cliffhangers," he teased. "Full -- one after the other one .... If you think that overall the episodes are fast-paced, well wait 'til you see tonight's episode. It's going to be so fast, so many stories to tell, so many turn of events, so many cliffhangers, it's going to be epic."

But we've seen epic -- last week's episode featured Rogelio starting rehearsals on his one-night-only Vegas residency, singing a Spanish version of Elvis' "Suspicious Minds." So, naturally, we pressed for more.

"I can tell you this: When it comes to Rogelio and Xiomara [Andrea Navedo], what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas," Camil teased.

Cliffhangers can be taken in with some ease given that the show was renewed for a second season months ago.

But in a 30-minute chat with Camil, talking points were far more wide-ranging.

Camil has drawn attention for his comic delivery and his portrayal of Rogelio's hilariously clueless arrogance. And it's a somewhat fitting role for the Mexican actor, who is widely known in Latin America for his role in such sitcom-like telenovelas as "La Fea M᳠Bella" (Mexico's original "Ugly Betty" series), "Qu預obres Tan Ricos" ("So Poor Yet So Rich") and "Por Ella Soy Eva" ("For Her, I'm Eva").

Watch the video above to get Camil's take on the difference between Mexican series and American programs, making the jump to the English-speaking market and "Jane the Virgin's" journey from underdog to critical darling.
