Emmy Awards fail to announce 'The Big Bang Theory' nomination

The Television Academy accidentally failed to announce a significant Emmy nomination for "The Big Bang Theory."

An episode of the popular CBS sitcom is one of seven contenders for outstanding directing in a comedy series, but it was not included in Thursday's announcement of the nominees. The episode that was nominated, "The Bow Tie Asymmetry," premiered in May and was directed by Mark Cendrowski.

A rep for the academy acknowledged the mistake, telling The Hollywood Reporter the episode was "inadvertently left off various Television Academy communications platforms."

The rest of the nominees in the category include episodes of "Silicon Valley," "Barry," "Glow," "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" and two episodes of "Atlanta."

The Emmys recently instituted a new policy for the outstanding directing category that requires at least one multi-camera show and one single-camera show to be nominated, according to THR. "The Big Bang Theory" is the lone multi-camera nominee this year.

The series starring Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco received three nominations overall this year, with the others coming in the categories for outstanding technical direction camerawork video control and outstanding multi-camera picture editing.
