Emmy Awards: Cristin Milioti and Stephen Graham take Limited Series acting honours

Cristin Milioti accepts her Emmy Award

Cristin Milioti wrote her Emmy Awards acceptance speech "on the back of [her] therapy notes".

The 40-year-old actress took home the Best Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie prize at Sunday's (14.09.25) ceremony for her work on The Penguin and she admitted working on the programme had been a "bright spot" during a dark time for the world.

Cristin - who won the award ahead of Cate Blanchett (Disclaimer), Meghann Fahy (Sirens), Rashida Jones (Black Mirror) and Michelle Williams (Dying for Sex) - said: “Sorry, I wrote this on the back of notes I took in therapy the other day, so don’t look at the back.

“It’s very hard to make sense of being alive right now in this world, so I’m deeply grateful for the bright spots. Making this show with our incredible cast and crew, and getting to inhabit this woman was a bright spot for me. Despite it being very grisly, playing her felt like flying.

“I love you and I love acting so much."

Stephen Graham picked up his second Emmy of the night when he scooped Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Adolescence.

The 52-year-old actor - who had also taken Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie with Jack Thorne for the show - admitted the recognition was "humbling".

He said: "This kind of thing doesn't normally happen to a kid like me. I'm just a mixed race kid from a block of flats in a place called Kirkby so for me to be here today in front of my peers is the utmost humbling thing I can ever imagine in my life and it shows you that any dream is possible."

Stephen took the accolade ahead of category favourite Colin Farrell (The Penguin), Jake Gyllenhaal (Presumed Innocent), Brian Tyree Henry (Dope Thief) and Cooper Koch (The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story).
