Emmerdale viewers not happy as hospital scenes air

Emmerdale fans were left less than impressed during hospital scenes that aired during Thursday's episode.

Leyla, David, Eric and Liam were sat in the waiting room as Jacob fought for his life after being stabbed. Wednesday's episode saw Jacob walk in on his mum, Leyla, with a bag of cocaine.

It comes after Leyla's life spiralled out of control amid a dangerous addiction that tightened its grip on her, before she went away for a stay in rehab.

Leyla has been clean ever since, but while struggling to come to terms with her marriage to Liam ending, and then finding out a huge job had been pulled from her company, she couldn't see any better way of making herself feel better than to call her dealer.

The wedding planner didn't actually take any of the drugs, which Jacob threw in the bin before locking his mum in her bedroom overnight. After Leyla was let out of the room by David the following morning she saw Jacob had sent a text to her dealer Callum from her phone, asking to meet, and realised he had planned to go after him.

Leyla and David found Jacob unconscious by the viaduct, having been stabbed. After rushing him to hospital, David told Liam and Eric exactly what had happened.

Eric said: "Your son is in emergency surgery because you didn't help yourself", before adding: "It's typical of Jacob, wanting to do the right thing". David added: "Now he's fighting for his life, nice one".

Many fans watching at home took issue with the conversation. Taking to Twitter, Bethany said: "How is it Leyla's fault, he took the knife with him and it was Jacob's choice to go meet him?", while Jamie said: "The right thing, Eric? Confronting a drug dealer in the middle of nowhere?"

Vicky said: "Jacob wanting to do the right thing but he took a knife to confront a drug dealer?" Michelle said: "Leyla has an addiction and nobody went to check on her when she was struggling! Leave her alone".

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV and the ITV Hub
