Emmerdale viewers left saying same thing as David Metcalfe diagnosed with whiplash

In the latest episode of Emmerdale on Thursday night, David Metcalfe was seen continuing with his insurance scam but it was his quick diagnosis of whiplash that left many viewers baffled. The shop owner has continued to experience money troubles and despite recently accepting a cash injection from Brenda is still struggling with his debts.

The character opened up to his father last month about his financial difficulties following the pandemic, Liverpool Echo reports. After looking over his books, Eric Pollard was adamant his son needed to sell, but David has been determined to keep his shop in business.

Earlier this week, David set up a delivery service to help with his sales, but things turned sour when he was involved in a collision with Nicola King outside The Woolpack. After asking Nicola if he could borrow a van from the haulage company but not getting anywhere, he has since feigned a neck injury in a bid to claim compensation after the car crash.

After mentioning his 'injury' to girlfriend Victoria Sugden and dad Eric Pollard they suggested he visit the GP surgery to check he's ok. Later in the episode, he was seen visiting Dr Liam Cavanagh, who said he was suffering with whiplash, "If it sounds like whiplash, it feels like whiplash then it probably is whiplash," he told David.

He told the shop owner to take Ibuprofen and use heat patches or a hot water bottle to "help ease the muscles". But David got more than he bargained for when the GP told him to avoid driving and heavy lifting meaning he will have to go easy at work.

But viewers weresoon taking to Twitter to say David managing to get a GP appointment at such short notice was "the fakest thing" and "peak fiction". John tweeted: "There’s fiction and then there’s fiction. But I think we’ve really hit peak fiction if David has managed to get a doctor's appointment the same day."

Chlod tweeted: "The fakest thing about #emmerdale is David managing to get a same day GP appointment" to which Emma Daley replied: "I know. My GP disappeared during first covid lockdown and has not been seen since". Philip Davies also added: "And Dr Cav working".

"David has such bad whiplash...the doc didn't even offer a neck brace. Give me strength #Emmerdale," Pam tweeted. Jason commented: "He soon got a docs appointment".

"Haha Victoria, David’s Insurance claims is about as genuine as Meena was #Emmerdale," Owen added. Whilst another viewer, Mike said: "I dislike David for this faking injury business #Emmerdale".

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV and ITV Hub from 7.30pm.
