Emmerdale viewers ecstatic as Ross Barton 'set to return' to soap after three years

Emmerdale fans are excitedly anticipating the return of Ross Barton, played by Michael Parr.

The character hasn't been seen on the soap since his departure three years ago when he moved away with Rebecca White, played by Emily Head.

However, he is often mentioned as his son Moses Dingle (Arthur Cockroft) still lives in the village with his mother, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins).

But fans got excited as it was mentioned in last night's episode the character had returned to Emmerdale village, though he wasn't actually seen on-screen.

Ross was referenced during a scene between Charity and her new boyfriend Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb).

Charity revealed Ross would be visiting the village to drop off his son, Moses, after spending some time with him over Christmas, as she told Mackenzie they would need to tell Moses about their relationship once he returned.

Charity said: "Ross is dropping Moses off, so we need to do the introductions."

Mackenzie however suggested it might be too soon, though she wasn't convinced as her eldest son, Ryan Stocks (James Moore), had been less than impressed after he was made aware of the relationship after catching the couple together.

Although viewers didn't get to see Ross dropping off his son, the reference to him prompted fans to express hope he'll soon make an on-screen return.

They took to Twitter to share their excitement.

Conor said: "Be great to see Ross back on #Emmerdale."

Amelia said: "There’s been a Ross mention?! Ross Barton love of my life always #Emmerdale."

Eva said: "Ross is back in Emmerdale (off screen but) everybody cheered."
