Emmerdale viewers complain to Ofcom over Paul's violent attack on Vinny before watershed

Emmerdale viewers have called a scene 'distressing' and 'violent' after Paul attacked his son Vinny.

During last week's episode things became heated when Paul (Reece Dinsdale) beat up his son Vinny (Bradley Johnson) when they were supposed to be celebrating his stag do.

Viewers have been complaining to Ofcom about the scene that aired on the ITV Emmerdale soap, the Mirror reports.

One person tweeted: "Why has Emmerdale gone like this? Never used to be so nasty. Why do soaps feel they need to air these storylines?"

Another even argued the show is trying to 'promote' violence, and posted: "Them in charge seem to promote violence #emmerdale."

And a third viewer penned: "I actually found the attack scene really distressing to watch and I hope @emmerdale are ending this storyline soon."

The scene aired prior to the 9pm watershed and Ofcom confirmed that they received 66 complaints.

In the scenes that viewers have complained about, Paul punched his son to the floor and proceeded to kick him several times.

The character was then seen panicking as Vinny lay lifeless on the gravel.

As he urged his son to wake up, Paul told him he was sorry and was about to walk away when Vinny started coughing and came to.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
