Emmerdale viewers accuse ITV soap of being 'obsessed with drugs' as well as alcohol

Emmerdale viewers have accused the ITV soap of being 'obsessed' with drugs and alcohol at the moment.

Thursday's episode of the show featured scenes of Dawn's friend Jade high on drugs and also touched upon Leyla's cocaine addiction as well.

Leyla's story has been ongoing for weeks now and looks set to come to a head in the near future when David catches her doing coke.

Meanwhile, Dawn decided to attend her best friend Beth's funeral after she dies from an overdose.

However, when her friend Jade invited her back to her flat, she panicked at the thought of temptation.

Moments later, Dawn realised Jade was on drugs as she zoned out on the sofa.

Emmerdale viewers weren't overly impressed with the scenes on Thursday evening and took to Twitter to comment.

"Stop with the drug taking scenes for goodness sake #Emmerdale," one person posted.

Another asked: "Is there anyone not on drugs or alcohol in #emmerdale?"

A third person tweeted: "This programme really is obsessed with drugs! Oh and drink. Any other addiction too. So boring now #Emmerdale."

And a fourth viewer posted: "I don’t mind addiction stories at all, but if you’re not a fan of them, I’m not sure how much fun #Emmerdale would be right now. Constant drug and alcohol references."

Someone else tweeted: "How many times has drugs been mentioned tonight? Jeez lousie! #emmerdale."

Another posted: "Leyla asking if they can stop talking about the drugs. Yes, please, do us all an favour #Emmerdale."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
