Emmerdale teases tension between Priya and Aiesha ahead of Shila Iqbal’s exit

Emmerdale spoilers have teased tension between stepsisters Priya Sharma and Aiesha Richards on the ITV soap, ahead of a looming exit.

Priya, played by actress Fiona Wade, is left unsure by her new sibling in Wednesday’s episode.

Aiesha’s mother Manpreet recently married Priya’s father Rishi in a secret wedding, amid fears she was conning him for his money.

In upcoming scenes, Priya is left put out by Manpreet’s daughter’s thoughtfulness towards her father.

Sacked Emmerdale star Shila Iqbal's final scene confirmed after 'racist' tweet scandal

It’s teased there could be unease between the pair, as the soap newbie grows closer to the family.

The character won’t be on the soap much longer though as actress Shila Iqbal, who plays Aiesha, is leaving the role.

Shila was axed from the soap by bosses, and may only appear for a week or two more it’s claimed.

An Emmerdale spokeswoman confirmed news of her departure, stating: "As a consequence of historic social media posts Shila Iqbal has left her role as Aiesha Richards on Emmerdale.

"The programme took the decision not to renew her contract as soon as these posts were brought to the company's attention."

According to Mail Online, Iqbal was fired after bosses learnt of a series of historic 'racist' tweets in which the N-word was used.

The posts are said to have dated back to 2013 when Iqbal was 19-years-old and attended college in Rochdale.

The 24-year-old joined the show as permanent cast member just a matter of weeks ago after briefly playing Aiesha, the daughter of Manpreet Jutla, in 2018.

It is not yet known how show bosses plan to write around her exit.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
