Emmerdale characters are well known for their rocky love lives but two stars of the show had a tumultuous romance of their own.
Duncan Preston, best know for playing Doug Potts in the ITV soap, married Susan Penhaligon back in 1986.
Susan has also appeared in Emmerdale, starring as Jean Hope in 2016 - reports Leeds Live.

Sadly their marriage wasn't to last and they split in 1992 and got divorced.
However in true soap fashion it proved not to be the end of their romance as the couple reconciled in 1997.
Despite getting back together the pair have yet to get remarried.
Who is Duncan Preston?
Duncan Preston is a British actor who starred as Douglas Potts in Emmerdale on-and-off for over a decade. He also has appeared on EastEnders.
Along with his work on the British soaps, Preston has also appeared in shows such as Surgical Spirit, Holby City, and Peak Practice.
He was born in Bradford.
He became interested in performing at a young age and decided to attend the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
Preston was cast as DS Todd in EastEnders in the ‘80s, but he only stayed on the show for a short time. He was then cast as Douglas Potts in Emmerdale in 2007 and stayed on until 2011. However, he ended up returning to the show in 2014, where he remained as a mainstay until 2020.
Who is Susan Penhaligon?
Susan is a British actress and writer known for her role in the drama series Bouquet of Barbed Wire in 1976.
She is also known for playing Helen Barker in the sitcom A Fine Romance.

As well as appearing as Jean Hope in Emmerdale in 2006 her film appearances include Under Milk Wood, No sex please we're British, The Land That Time Forgot, The Uncanny, Paul Verhoeven's Soldier of Orange and as Lucy Westenra in Count Dracula.
She has also had a substantial stage career.
