Emmerdale stars explain how they filmed nail-biting rope bridge scene

On last night's episode of Emmerdale, we saw Manpreet Sharma and Charles Anderson fall from a suspended rope bridge and plunge into the waters of a canyon below.

Fans on Twitter praised the production, with Karen saying: "That rope bridge is my worst nightmare @emmerdale #supersoap week. Brilliant episode, well done all. "

Le-Le posted: "Wow @emmerdale I’m mad with you but that episode was brilliant well done to you all!

She added: "That bridge drop was brilliant - like something out of Fast and Furious!"

Sharon shared: "Last nights episode was Emmerdale at its best. Cant wait the rest of this weeks episodes. Brilliant well done everybody. First Class."

This week has been hailed as "survival week" for Emmerdale, as the characters from the show embark on an outdoor challenge event.

Survival week has been well thought out and produced but leaves viewers wondering how the death defying stunts are carried out.

Kevin Mathurin, who plays Charles Anderson on the soap, said: "We were so high up, about 60ft above the water.

"When the VFX are in it will look like the rope bridge is suspended between two cliffs but in reality, one side was attached to a crane.

"It didn’t look inviting at all but the way they constructed and designed it, it looked fantastic."

Rebecca Sarker, who is Emmerdale's Manpreet Sharma, told ITV : "We had a wonderful stunt team managing any concerns we had so felt totally safe and secure.

"Having said that, your heart can’t fail to miss a beat or two when you’re suspended with no safety harness on a Tarzan-like rope bridge with a 60ft drop below into a water-filled quarry."

Tonight's episode will see David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) and Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) clinging on to the fallen bridge.

Will their fate also be in the waters of the canyon?

Emmerdale airs weekdays from 7pm on ITV and ITVHub
