Emmerdale star warns he 'could be next to be axed' ahead of soap's 50th anniversary

Emmerdale's Jeff Hordley has warned he "could be next" for the chop ahead of the ITV soap's dramatic 50th anniversary.

Jeff - who has played Cain Dingle for several years - has opened up about his legendary character possibly being axed from the show. He insists no one is safe, and admits "it could be me this year" to say goodbye to the show.

The actor will be playing a big part in the ITV soap's dramatic 50th anniversary celebrations, with his mum Faith Dingle's cancer storyline making up a huge part of the episodes to mark the huge milestone. However, he has warned no one is safe from facing the chop, as he admitted it is "always upsetting" when they have to say goodbye to their fellow cast.

Speaking about the show's contracts, he revealed to the Express: "I sometimes find that hard to believe but they have got to keep the show moving and they’ve got to freshen up the show. But sometimes they do have to say goodbye to people and that is always upsetting. But one day I am sure it will be me, it could be me this year."

The full storylines surrounding the upcoming 50th anniversary celebrations in October are being kept top secret, but we do know the Dingles will have a big part in the show's birthday month.

Executive producer Jane Hudson previously teased: "As we start our birthday month, we'll be focusing on our Faith storyline, which is a huge storyline for us at the moment. Then we will work our way into our storm week.

"The Faith story is such an emotional and heartbreaking story. It's going to be huge across our 50th. I think everybody involved in that story is pulling out some of the most amazing performances I've seen in soap for a long time. So that's got a huge part to play."

Bosses have teased drama, death, babies and weddings in the coming months, with fans fearing their favourite characters could be heading away from the Dales for good as part of the explosive storyline.

"This is our 50th birthday in October, and we thought instead of just celebrating one day, why don't we celebrate the whole month to mark our 50th. And that's exactly what we're going to be doing. So in Emmerdale style, we have got every story imaginable. We've got things that are going to make you laugh, make you cry, make you surprised, and stories that are going to rock your world," producer Jane revealed of the upcoming scenes.

"There is always the potential for a murder in Emmerdale, this is Emmerdale. You know, it's famous for its murders. It's Emmerdale so there's often a murderer lurking around the corner somewhere."
