Emmerdale star to join Corrie as 'feisty and bold' Isla who has sights set on Tyrone

Former Emmerdale star Gemma Oaten will join Coronation Street next month.

Viewers will best remember Gemma for playing Rachel Breckle in the Yorkshire Dales or for her roles in Doctors and Casualty.

But in November the Hull-born actress will make a cameo appearance on the Corrie cobbles.

Gemma will play Isla, whose daughter Darcy attends a party with Hope Stape.

And the character is guaranteed to ruffle some feathers as she meets newly single Tyrone Dobbs.

While both at the kids part, flirty Isla suggests the four of them go for a milkshake together and later, as Hope and Darcy giggle over their milkshakes, Isla sets her sights on Tyrone further, suggesting they should meet up for a drink.

When Tyrone reveals to ex-Fiz that he has agreed to a date with Isla, Fiz is furious but things are about to get even worse for unlucky in love Tyrone.

When Tyrone and Isla head out of the restaurant on their date, a man approaches and introduces himself as Tony, Isla's husband.

The mechanic then gets a punch in the chops from Tony, sending him flying.

Revealing more about Isla, Gemma told the Manchester Evening News and other press: "She's feisty, I'd say bold and I found her quite brave and courageous.

"She knows who she is and she owns it and I think it's something Rachel Breckle struggled with."

She added: "Isla walks in all fur coat, she did wear knickers don't worry. I was going to say fur coat, no knickers.

"There's a mink, faux-fur gilet she comes out with, she's a real statement and she's not afraid to own who she is and be a bit flirty and god forbid I use the word sexy, it's not me because I'm not sexy at all.

"But she felt like she was a sexy character."

Gemma went on to reveal that she had a call time onset of an hour and a half for getting ready to be Isla, a streak difference to the 10 minutes she had at Emmerdale to become Rachel.

With Tyrone being the object of Isla's affection, Gemma believes it was a no-brainer for her character to be interested in him.

"Who wouldn't like Tyrone?" she said. "He's just a heart of gold. A bit geeky, a bit sheepish but you can tell he has the best heart."

But the problem is, Isla is married.

"There was a discussion around all this with all the directors around is this something that Isla does on regular basis," Gemma said of her character asking Tyrone for a drink.

"She has to fight for her husband's attention and maybe this is where she pushes his buttons and gets it.

"But I think, if we were to dig a little deeper and Isla were to come back at any point, there are a lot of elements that we wanted to keep open to explore."
