Emmerdale star Lisa Riley opens up on 'horrible' death of uncle, 104, from coronavirus

Emmerdale star Lisa Riley has opened up on the "horrible" death of her 104-year-old uncle from coronavirus.

Speaking on today's Good Morning Britain, Lisa revealed that she had tragically lost her great-uncle Burt after contracting COVID-19.

The actress is planning a special tribute once the UK is no longer under lockdown because she can't go to his funeral.

Lisa told Lorraine Kelly that unfortunately her great-uncle "is one of the statistics" amid the coronavirus outbreak, but led a very happy life.

She said: "My beautiful uncle Burt - he was 104. He had a bad fall at home, went into hospital and unfortunately he is one of the statistics. But what a life to celebrate."

The Mandy Dingle actress explained she had been speaking to her aunt about how they would honour his life.

She said: "Its horrible we can't go to the funeral, but I was on the phone to my auntie Eleanor and I said, 'What was one of uncle Burt's favourite things?' It was his family BBQ's.

"So when all this is all over we hope to get together, have a BBQ and play all his Frank Sinatra favourites and sing like uncle Burt would have done."

Lisa is trying to stay in touch with her family as much as possible and revealed her dad, who is 70 in May, is high risk with type two diabetes.

She also discussed how she was coping in lockdown now filming for Emmerdale had been put on hold.

Emmerdale fans have no reason to panic just yet as Lisa explained there are enough episodes to keep everyone satisfied.

She said: 'We're going to have enough episodes to transmit until early summer, and we've got so much to offer. Mandy has got so much to offer at the moment.

Emmerdale viewers will get to see whether Lydia Hart and Sam Dingle make it down the aisle.

Lisa added: "It's the wedding tonight. But will she make the wedding? Because Mandy lost her on a night out."
