Emmerdale star Kirsty Hitchinson swaps the Dales for Coronation Street

Kirsty Hitchinson is swapping Emmerdale for Coronation Street - and we won't have to wait long to see her in action.

Next week an old friend of Leanne Battersby arrives on the cobbles and the actress who plays her may be familiar to fans of ITV's sister soap.

Mandy, who she knows from her antenatal class, arrives and asks after her son Oliver.

A devastated Leanne, who was recently told that her boy has a serious life limiting condition, makes out he's fine. But as Mandy heads off, Leanne is overwhelmed with grief.

She then tells Toyah how when her old friend inquired after Oliver, she lied, and now she’s ashamed of herself.

Last year Kirsty featured in the Netflix thriller Safe starring Dexter’s Michael C. Hall and in TV mini-series Close to the Enemy.

Kirsty has acted from a young age, starting out at Oldham Theatre Workshop with tutor David Johnson, who gave the late Anne Kirkbride, Corrie's Deirdre Barlow, her big break.

Kirsty studied drama at the University of Huddersfield and trained in Manchester and London.

Over the years she has worked on TV programmes including the supernatural drama Bedlam and BBC2's Close to the Enemy.

Most recently Kirsty played Julia in the Netflix series Safe and last year she played Ariana in Emmerdale, a glamorous date for Jai Sharma played by Chris Bisson.

Coronation Street fans were left unsettled last night as toxic Geoff Metcalfe made incredibly creepy remark about his mother tonight.

As he popped into the Rovers to buy a bottle of wine, he left barmaid Jenny Connor feeling very uncomfortable as he said that she looked like his mum.

Jenny made a face at the comment and Geoff made an odd attempt to reassure her - by insisting that his mum has been beautiful and that no woman had ever measured up to her.

He then went on to leer at Jenny as she turned around to grab the card machine.
