Emmerdale star Jeff Hordley reveals Cain's motive in Caleb murder mystery

Emmerdale actor Jeff Hordley has weighed in on the upcoming murder mystery and revealed Cain's motivation to kill.

The ITV soap is set to be rocked by a 'whodunnit' as Caleb Milligan will be pushed over a ledge and left for dead in shocking scenes. After months of Caleb's scheming, the house of cards is finally toppling down for the character as he has a trail of enemies hoping for his demise.

Caleb's plot to take Home Farm comes to a head as his secrets are revealed prompting the Dingles to turn against him. After a tense confrontation in the pub where he lays into the locals, Caleb is followed into the woods and pushed off a woodland ridge in dramatic scenes.

Caleb certainly has left a string of enemies in his wake, including Cain, Leyla Cavanagh, Will Taylor and Mackenzie Boyd. Jeff, who plays Cain, has spoken out about his character's motive to bring down his shady sibling.

Jeff explained that Cain feels "incredibly stupid" for letting his guard down with Caleb and allowing him into his life again – including helping him with Kyle.

"There's a lot of resentment there now as he feels incredibly let down," he said. "I think Cain was beginning to accept the fact that he had a brother and he was beginning to quite like that they were starting to get on.

"It's a shame, as far as Cain's concerned, because once you let him down he isn't the type of person to give you a second chance."

The brothers will also get into a fight in the upcoming episode and they have to be pulled apart by Chas and Moira, before Cain "verbally threatens to kill him". He adds that Cain does have a motive for the potential murder "in terms of if he is capable of gunning for him".

Although Cain says he was out "walking the dog on Zak's behalf" at the time of Caleb's fall, Jeff said that Cain is not "very forthcoming with the truth" when the rest of the Dingles start to question him, which "makes it all seem very suspicious".

He added: "I think there is always potential for anything with Cain. If he's pushed in the wrong direction or if he flies off the handle then anything can happen."

Out on a woodland ridge, Caleb is blindsided when the unknown figure rushes out and pushes him over the edge his lifeless body sprawls on the ground below. Back in the village, a number of suspicious characters all return from mysterious outings. (ITV)

Speaking of if Cain could kill his brother, Jeff said: "It's the nature of the show we are in that we often have these 'whodunnits' and I've been in the lineup for many different things over the years. It's just another day in paradise for me.

"Will [Ash] and I are good mates and he is a brilliant actor to work with. I feel blessed to be working with him and really grateful that he's in the show and I have a lot of scenes with him."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
