Emmerdale star Charley Webb speaks out about exit from show she's appeared in for 19 years

Emmerdale's Charley Webb, the actress who played Debbie Dingle in the show, has spoken out about rumours she has quit the soap.

In an Instagram Q and A on Monday night (January 3) Charley was asked if she had left Emmerdale.

The 33-year-old has been in the role for the ITV show for 19 years but hadn't been seen on screen since the beginning of 2021 after her character was involved in an affair with Al Chapman while he was engaged to Priya Sharma.

However, just before Christmas, there were rumours she was "closing the door' on the ITV soap for good" after her husband Matthew Wolfenden allegedly became embroiled in a racism row, reported Manchester Evening News.

Matthew, who has been married to Charley for three years, plays David Metcalfe in the soap.

As a fan posed the question "have you left Emmerdale", the actress came back with an answer that indicated she actually left the show significantly longer ago than people think.

Alongside a photo of herself with Matthew and their three children, the actress wrote: "This is always my most asked question but I’ve never answered it before because I’ve never wanted to make a big deal of it," she wrote on her Instagram story alongside a picture of her family.

"I left to have Ace 2 years ago. I went back at the end of last year for 10 weeks to complete a storyline. So, I guess officially it’s been a year. I never felt the need to announce it which is why we didn't."

Charley was also asked about her New Year's Eve celebrations after she posted pictures with her former co-stars.

The mum-of-three rang in 2022 with her on-screen dad Jeff Hordley (Cain Dingle) and his Emmerdale star wife Zoe Henry, who plays Rhona.

Also in attendance was Charley's on-screen mum Emma Atkins, who plays Charity Dingle, and Emmerdale's former series producer Kate Oates.

She said in a post on her Instagram Story: "My New Years Eve Crew. Best night with some of my favouritests."

And it turns on Charley lives just seconds away from Emma.

When asked if the on-screen mother and daughter lived next door to each other, Charley said alongside a festive selfie of the pair: "30 second walk. Our kids are like brothers, love it."
