Emmerdale star Amy Walsh gives birth to first baby with EastEnders' Toby-Alexander Smith

Real-life soap couple Amy Walsh and Toby-Alexander Smith have welcomed their first child together.

The confirmed the arrival to OK!, saying: "Well…it’s been a busy week! Hope you all had a good one. HAPPY NEW YEAR from the three of us."

Emmerdale star Amy, 34, and EastEnders actor, 31, also shared a sweet snap of themselves pushing a pram and looking lovingly at their newborn.

Amy, who is the sister of Girls Aloud star Kimberley, said in November that she felt like she was "made" to give birth.

She said: "I feel weirdly excited about it.

"I’m sure everyone who’s been through it reading this will laugh but it’s something I’ve always wanted to experience."

She added: "I’ve always felt I was made to do it. I’m very aware of how scary it could be so I know it won’t be a bed of roses, but what I’m most looking forward to is going through that journey with Toby."

Amy, who plays Tracy Metcalfe, and Toby, who plays Gray Atkins in his soap, announced in September that they were expecting their first child together.

She told OK! magazine at the time: "It feels as though the way everything happened was meant to be. I thought I might struggle with fertility, so for pregnancy to happen quite easily and when I wanted – I was gobsmacked. We feel incredibly lucky..."

Amy had explained how she thought she might never become a mum after being diagnosed with Polycystic Ovaries when she was 20.

She said: "I always thought falling pregnant was going to be a battle. Toby knew how worried I was, especially as I’m a bit older.

"I did wonder if it would ever happen for me, so it feels like a blessing."

Toby added: "There’s never a perfect time. You could always think, 'We could do with a bigger house or investing more time in our careers,' but if you’ve met the right person then that’s it."
