Emmerdale star Amy Walsh announces birth of first baby with EastEnders actor

Emmerdale star Amy Walsh and her partner, EastEnders actor Toby-Alexander Smith, have welcomed their first baby together.

The real-life soap couple confirmed the news to OK! and said they became parents over the festive period.

Amy, 34, and Toby, 31, said it had been a "busy week" as they welcomed their child into the world.

They said to OK!: "Well…it’s been a busy week! Hope you all had a good one. HAPPY NEW YEAR from the three of us."

Amy, who plays Tracy Metcalfe on the ITV soap, said she didn't think she would be able to have children after being diagnosed with polycystic ovaries, a condition that affects a woman's eggs.

Poly-cystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common condition that affects how a woman's ovaries work.

The NHS says its main symptoms are irregular periods and excess androgen, which means there are high levels of "male" hormones in the body.

The ovaries also become enlarged and contain many fluid-filled sacs (follicles) that surround the eggs.

These sacs are often unable to release an egg, which means ovulation does not take place.

It's difficult to know exactly how many women have PCOS, but it's thought to be very common, affecting about 1 in every 10 women in the UK.

The soap star previously said how "lucky" she was to be told she had a "textbook pregnancy" by her midwife.

Back in November, Amy said she felt like she was "made" to give birth.

She said: "I feel weirdly excited about it.

"I’m sure everyone who’s been through it reading this will laugh but it’s something I’ve always wanted to experience."

She added: "I’ve always felt I was made to do it. I’m very aware of how scary it could be so I know it won’t be a bed of roses, but what I’m most looking forward to is going through that journey with Toby."

Amy, who plays Tracy Metcalfe, and Toby, who plays Gray Atkins in his soap, announced in September that they were expecting their first child together.
