Emmerdale's teen bullying storyline will 'run and run' amid April's turmoil

Emmerdale's teen bullying storyline will "run and run", as young April Windsor is the victim of vile trolling online.

After recently being targeted on social media, the youngster's ordeal will escalate and continue it has been revealed.

Actor Mark Charnock, who plays April's dad Marlon Dingle, has revealed the soap will explore the after effects of the bullying to reflect the topic truthfully.

Recent scenes have shown April, 12, left distraught over comments and name calling under her social media posts, including remarks teasing her about her dead mother Donna.

Marlon was mortified over what she had been going through and decided to take her phone away, believing this to be the solution.

But when he hands the device back to his daughter, April goes back on her promise not to go on any social media.

She's left heartbroken when she soon finds nasty messages again from her mystery tormentor, while her pal Cathy Hope offers advice to her.

Speaking about the storyline, actor Mark revealed the show was being careful with the plot to make it as truthful as possible.

He also revealed the storyline was far from over, and would reflect April's ordeal and the impact the bullying has on her.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, Mark explained: "It is gonna run and run because these things don't go away overnight. They are insidious, poisonous and psychological.

"The after effects are dreadful for kids and the parents too. The stuff we’ve had so far has been really beautifully weighted.

"Emmerdale has been really careful with this storyline, you have to be cautious with this type of story and tell its truth.

"It’s very truthful, very sad and I think hopefully it will tell a lot of people’s stories because we know this is extraordinarily common, too common, and we all talk about it on social media and on it continues, on it goes."

He went on: "The only way forward is to keep talking about it, and that's why it is important that shows like Emmerdale do these stories to flag it up.

"There's still this stigma of shame about being bullied and the fear of talking about it and being seen as a grass. It’s an awful thing, it's awful."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
