Emmerdale's Sarah Sugden star Katie Hill red-faced as she's turned away from ITV studios

Emmerdale actress Katie Hill was left with red-faced on Tuesday after being turned away from the ITV studios.

The soap star, 19, who has played Debbie Dingle's daughter Sarah Sugden on the series since 2017, took to Instagram to reveal her embarrassing blunder.

Katie confessed she had turned up to start filming at 7am, only to be sent home by bosses after discovering she hadn't needed to be in.

Sharing the awkward moment, Katie uploaded a photo of the ITV studios in the morning sunshine and said: "Not me turning up to work at 7am to be told I'm not even in today" with a head in hands emoji.

Katie is the fifth actress to play Sarah and is on-set most days for table reads, rehearsals and filming.

Her character has already endured a great deal of trauma, including spending years in and out of hospital following a devastating diagnosis.

In 2011, then six-year-old Sarah was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease called Fanconi anaemia and needed a bone marrow transplant to save her life.

Debbie and Andy decided they needed to have another baby, as neither of them or their family members were a match for Sarah.

Then later in the year, Sarah's health took a turn for the worse and she sadly began developing leukaemia. Fortunately, her brother Jack was soon born and he proved to be the match she needed to survive.

In 2017, Sarah was revealed to have throat cancer and was flown to Prague to have treatment, after a crowdfunding campaign and help from Debbie's grandmother Faith Dingle. Since then, Sarah continues to suffer from health issues and has collapsed on more than one occasion.

In her own time, she often shares clips of her singing covers of popular songs to her 60,000 followers on Instagram, and enjoys travelling and spending time with co-stars away from the set, including Daisy Campbell who plays Amelia Spencer.

The awkward blunder comes just a few weeks after a fellow cast member said he was !annoyed" as he called in sick for the first time in 25 years.

Dominic Brunt, who plays much-loved character Paddy Dingle, had been struck down with coronavirus and had to take a day off.

He wrote on Twitter : "After 25 years at Emmerdale without a single day off, I have succumbed to the dreaded ‘rona.

"I have been ridiculously careful but tomorrow will be be the first time in a quarter of a century. Now THAT pisses me off. Fortunate to have good health though and thankful. Love to all."
