Emmerdale's Samantha Giles speaks of role outside ITV soap and tarot card reading

Emmerdale star Samantha Giles, who is best known for her role as Bernice Blackstock on the ITV hit soap, has teased a new role outside of the soap.

The soap legend, who has been on and off the soap for 25 years, appeared on Loose Women today to discuss going through the menopause both on and off screen. While discussing her role as Bernice Blackstock, who is currently in the midst of a bidding war against her sister Nicola King for the village B&B, Samantha discussed her plans for the future.

Asked whether she plans to stay in Emmerdale, Samatha said: "I am enjoying it, but I've never lost that thing of wanting to go and do other things like the stage. I really miss theatre and that relationship with the audience.

Speaking of her hopes for her character, Samantha said: "I would like to see who this Charlie is her ex-husband, she's had the longest relationship with him but obviously we've never met him, it's all been off screen.

"So it would be quite interesting to see what he's like what the dynamic has been between them that has always brought them back together again."

The soap star also discussed another interesting aspect of her life as she revealed she has learnt to read tarot cards. Panellist Denise Welch prompted: "On a more personal level, Sam, something that I'm fascinated by... You follow the wicca religion. So in theory you're a white witch."

"Now, I know that the word 'witch' can still conjure up a negative connotation, but it's not. Can you just, sort of, do an elevated picture of what wicca is?"

Samantha replied: "Yeah, so basically, all wicca is is following nature really and revering nature and following the seasons. It's trying to eat seasonal food and toasting the full moon.

"If you've got crystals then you recharge them on a full moon. It's basically revering nature and kind of getting out there in the natural world. You can do the witchcraft part of it, like the spells and stuff, if you want to but you don't have to.

"It's along the same thing as manifestation." The actress went on to explain that she uses "self help kits" as she said: "If you say to somebody 'here's a magic spell kit' they'll be like 'ugh what's that'. But if you say 'here's a self help kit' then they're more for it."
