Emmerdale's Robert Sugden makes contact and drops heartbreaking news to Victoria

Emmerdale airs an update with the recent Robert Sugden twist next week, according to new spoilers.

Fans recently questioned if he could be making a surprise comeback, after Luke Posner made a killer confession linked to the crime Robert is in prison for.

Robert was sentenced to 14 years in prison over the murder of Luke's brother Lee Posner in 2019, after he hit him over the head with a shovel.

What wasn't known at the time was that just hours earlier, Lee had already hit his head after a fight with Luke.

Their mum Wendy questioned whether this new evidence could mean Lee was already suffering with a brain bleed before the attack by Robert - possibly helping to reduce his sentence.

Once Robert's sister Victoria knew the truth, she was determined to help him and made contact.

But next week her hopes to help her brother end with a heartbreaking decision, once he decides what to do with the information.

Victoria believed that the new evidence would be enough to shorten his sentence, or change his conviction from murder to manslaughter, given it may have meant he was not solely to blame for Lee's death.

In upcoming scenes though, Victoria is dealt a huge blow after speaking with Robert - after months of him refusing to see or speak to any of his loved ones.

He tells her that he has decided not to appeal his sentencing or the conviction, believing he should face his time in prison for his crime.

Luke's confession has no means of changing his mind, with him clearly believing it to be justice for what happened to Lee.

Gutted, Victoria confides in Robert's ex-husband Aaron Dingle and tells him Robert's decision.

Aaron promises to be there for her and says he'll always look out for her, no matter what the situation with Robert is.

Meanwhile, Wendy is torn and conflicted when Victoria breaks the news to her about Robert's choice.

Having initially demanded justice against Robert for her son Lee's murder, the confession from Luke left Wendy hoping it might help him in some way after realising there was more to the story.

Will Robert change his mind?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
