Emmerdale's Noah Dingle's past explored: Health battles, prison birth and true paternity

Emmerdale's Noah Dingle is public enemy number one in the village right now, thanks to his recent crimes.

The teenager, who has been on the show since his birth in 2004, found himself sentenced to three months in prison for stalking and harassing his ex-girlfriend Chloe Harris.

Initially trying to escape justice, Noah soon faced up to his crimes but was stunned to be jailed for what he did.

His relationship with his mother Charity Dingle became strained because she is the one who grassed him up to the police.

But this isn't the only big drama of Noah's life, and actually since birth he has faced huge obstacles. Here's a look back at Noah's past, and the key moments viewers may remember...

Who is Noah's dad?

Noah is the son of the late villain Chris Tate, who framed partner Charity for his death after finding out she was cheating on him.

Around the time of her falling pregnant, she'd had flings with both Cain Dingle and Marlon Dingle.

DNA tests eventually proved that Noah was Chris' son, making him the half-brother of Joe Tate, while Noah's other half-siblings include Debbie Dingle, Ryan Stocks and Moses Dingle.

Noah's prison birth and fallout

Charity gave birth to her son prematurely while she was in prison in 2004, serving time for Chris' death.

Charity planned to have him adopted, believing she would not be able to prove her innocence, while she also didn't know who the father was straight away.

When the DNA test results were revealed, Chris' sister Zoe vowed to get custody and Charity agreed, although it came with the price of Zoe helping free her.

Social services later rejected Zoe's plan to adopt Noah, and instead asked Charity to decide whether or not she wanted her son back, to which she decided she did want him to stay with her.

Noah's health battles

When Noah was a baby, he was born three months prematurely. Shortly after his birth he became seriously ill.

He was diagnosed with Necrotising Enterocolitis, a condition that can be common in premature babies.

Noah only had a 50/50 chance of surviving, and had to undergo surgery.

Obviously Noah did survive, and in 2014 he was left fighting for his life again after drinking some wine and collapsing.

After he was rushed to hospital, Charity learned that the bottle of wine Noah drank from was spiked with pesticides.

Noah had an allergic reaction to the pesticide, leading to his collapse - while Charity feared someone was out to get her, as it was meant for her.

Noah nearly lost his life after taking some pills and suffering a drug overdose (ITV)

Fast-forward five years, and Noah nearly lost his life after taking some pills and suffering a drug overdose.

Noah was found collapsed in the woods having been there all night, leading to him suffering from severe hypothermia.

As Noah fought for his life in the hospital, his worried family learned he had a condition called rhabdomyolysis which could leave him with kidney damage.

Noah did recover, but the incident had a lasting effect on his health with ongoing kidney problems ending his chances of joining the army last year.

During training in the hope of being accepted, he pushed himself during a run and nearly collapsed.

His health hasn't really been addressed since, but it's thought his condition remains the same.

Changes to the character

Over the past year or so, viewers witnessed a huge change in Noah (mirror.co.uk)

Over the past year or so, viewers witnessed a huge change in Noah as he became creepy around young women and girls.

It started off with Noah going through Gabby Thomas' drawers, with him caught looking through her underwear.

While he also rummaged around killer Meena Jutla's bedroom, the character was nasty with Amelia Spencer earlier this year - using her to make Chloe Harris jealous, before making spiteful comments about her.

Emmerdale's Noah Dingle returns in upcoming scenes after a stint in prison (ITV)

Then there's the fact that he turned toxic and vile with Chloe when she cheated on him with Jacob.

When she dumped him for good, he set about scaring her into thinking she needed him, as he spied on her and followed her, while taking pictures, voice recordings and videos of her in secret.

This has all since been exposed, so perhaps fans will see the old Noah again soon if he has learned from his behaviour while in prison.
