Emmerdale’s Noah Dingle actor Jack Downham's off-screen life and major film role

Noah Dingle has been a part of Emmerdale village for over ten years - the character first made an appearance on screens in 2009.

He is played by Jack Downham, a 20 year old actor from Leeds.

18 year old Noah is currently unnerving viewers of the ITV soap, as he has shown an unhealthy obsession with his ex-girlfriend Chloe Harris (Jessie Elland).

He started stalking Chloe, taking photos and videos of her, stealing her belongings, and ultimately trying to hold her hostage when he was called out for his wrong behaviour.

Chloe’s friends tried to go to the police to report Noah’s antics, but it was his own mum Charity Dingle who handed in his laptop as evidence to the police.

On Tuesday night, viewers were shocked when police revealed the evidence was enough to charge Noah with harassment and breaking and entering.

Actor Jack Downham is currently giving his all to the biggest storyline of Noah’s character, which may see him given a custodial sentence in court.

Jack’s life away from the screen is worlds apart from his sinister soap counterpart.

He was born in September 2001, meaning he is two years older than Noah.

The young Leeds actor began his path to fame at just eight years old, starring as Peter Morley in the ITV series Heartbeat in 2009.

He also joined the cast of Emmerdale in 2009 as Charity Dingle’s son and has stayed in the Yorkshire village ever since.

Nine year old Jack also starred as Young Robin in the 2010 film Robin Hood, which featured Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett and Mark Strong.

He seems to want to keep his personal life out of the spotlight, rarely posting on social media despite his regular on-screen appearances.

To mark ten years of appearing on Emmerdale, Jack shared an adorable picture on Instagram showing a group of the soap’s stars when they were little, including Daisy Campbell (who plays Amelia Spencer) and Joe-Warren Plant (who plays Jacob Gallagher).

In the 2019 post, he said: “Doesn’t feel like it’s been 10 years.”

Jack has had to research stalkers to make sure his character’s storyline was accurate.

He explained to Digital Spy that Noah does not understand how his actions are wrong, like many real life stalkers.

“He thought that he was trying to be kind to her and trying to get her to see the real him and see that what he was doing was right,” he said, “And that he just wanted to know more about her really, and get closer to her.”

Noah’s had a very complicated family history, with his father Chris Tate committing suicide and framing mum Charity for murder.

The fictional teen has also behaved questionably around women before, so Jack said he was "not really surprised” that his behaviour has spiralled to this extent.

Jack said: "He's not acted in the right ways around girls in the past, and with his mum, Charity, and her very interesting relationships throughout him growing up.

“I think it's all had a really negative effect on his view of women and how he should act around women."
