Emmerdale's Moira Dingle 'had to run away' from family and is hiding 'sad' secret

Emmerdale's Moira Dingle had no choice but to "run away" from her family and her past.

Actress Natalie J Robb has teased "sad" details about her character's secret, while keeping coy over what led to her fleeing when she was younger.

She's set to clash with secret brother Mackenzie in upcoming scenes after his arrival, with him wanting to get back at her for something.

It seems they both have a different version of the events that unfolded years earlier - but who is telling the truth?

Their "dark" past is yet to be fully exposed, but the pair are hiding something that has led to them being distant for years.

Speaking to Mirror online and other press, actress Natalie teased more about the mystery plot.

She also said that her past might explain why Moira is the way she is now.

Natalie revealed: "I really don't want to ruin it, we’re in the middle of filming it all.

"I can just say it's very sad but there is a big reason why she had to run away, that’s all I can say."

Natalie added: "It’s something she had to run away from and never look back in order to continue with her future, if she was to have any future."

On how it may have impacted her character, she hinted fans may understand her more once the truth comes out.

Natalie told us: "I think we definitely understand why, when she tells him her side of things they will definitely understand why.

"It's really sad actually but the audience will know when that happens, but it is quite dark.

"It’s good because it may explain a lot of why she is the way she is, perhaps why she is so fiercely protective of her children.

"It's nice to have that link in the past, it's the past catching up with her."

Lawrence Robb who plays Mackenzie also teased the mystery, adding: "He has spent his entire life from the point that Moira has gone, being told and drilled into him this thing had happened, and that was why she left.

"Then when he arrives she tells him it’s different, I think for anyone if they’ve believed something for so long to be told no actually it was this, initially you’re gonna be like ‘no, you're lying’."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
