Meena Jutla's trial kicked off on Emmerdale tonight - and a surprise character returned for the proceedings.
The evil serial killer has pleaded not guilty to three charges put against her, including the murders of Leanna Cavanagh, Andrea Tate and Ben Tucker, but as she prepared for the "big day", a surprise person showed up to the court.
Dr Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) was stood in the foyer of the court as he prepared to take the stand, when he was interrupted by a woman who asked him where Meena's trial was taking place and if she was on time.
Whilst he wasn't sure who she was at first, the lady soon introduced herself as Nadine's sister Carol, who had previously been in contact with Dr Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) as the doctor started to get suspicious of her sister.
The police are convinced Nadine took her own life, but Carol has always been sure that Nadine was murdered - something which Meena did admit to her sister. Whilst Carol acknowledged she wouldn't get the justice she wanted from the trial, she was adamant to be there to see Meena face the stand and hopefully get put away for good.
Carol offered some kind words to Liam as they chatted outside the court, explaining how devastated she was for Liam about Leanna's death and offered him her best words of advice and support as he prepared to take to the stand.
As they stepped into court, Meena was disappointed by the "poor showing", expecting the whole village to be there.
It is not yet known how the trial will end - and whether Meena will manage to evade justice once again.
Speaking to The Mirror and other press, actress Paige explained: "Meena actually does smash it, she does give the performance of a lifetime. Even with the defence she blows it out of the park. She breaks down in tears, she’s very convincing.
"There’s no hint of the mask slipping at all. Then with the prosecution he does go for her, but to her credit she deals with his attacks better than anyone else. I think she does manage to, in her mind, sway the jury and bat the prosecution away."
Insisting it could go either way and her character could be freed, she added: "I think the way the trial goes and the way it has been shot, the way we have the prosecution and the defence, they are both excellent actors both of them. I think the audience will be on the edges of their seats not knowing what is gonna happen, which way it is gonna go."
