Emmerdale's Meena Jutla has 'secretly killed again,' suggests actress Paige Sandhu

Emmerdale actress Paige Sandhu has suggested that her sadistic killer character Meena has killed twice before stepping foot in the Dales.

Next week, the murderous nurse will strike again as she murders her second victim in the village during the soap's explosive week.

Fans know that Meena is responsible for Leanna's death and previously killed a schoolfriend off-screen, but Paige has hinted that she has also murdered another time as well.

Speaking about how she gets into character, Paige told the Mirror and other news outlets: "Now that I really know her well and I've been playing her for over a year, I find it a lot easier to get into character than before.

"But what I usually do before every scene that I'm in… In my backstory, this hasn't been put in scripts but it's my backstory, Meena has killed twice before she comes to Emmerdale.

"What I do is I replay one of the murders that she commits and I change my body language, I stand like her, I clear my head of any thoughts. Just imagine killing that person and I just feel like her. That's what I do."

Paige admitted that she believes Meena generally feels no guilt for what she's done but pointed out one scene with Liam where she does show a smidgen of humanity.

"Generally no [she doesn't feel guilty], but there's one moment that we filmed," she explained. "It's after Meena kills Leanna and she's at Leanna's mum's gravestone with Liam.

"And she is looking at the plaque and we played it as if she felt a twinge of guilt that bubbled up and she said: 'I'm sorry, Liam'. I played it as if: 'I am sorry for killing your kid, because now he's lost his wife and his kid and he's heartbroken'.

"I do believe Meena actually likes Liam. She's like: 'He's alright, he's a laugh'."

Quizzed on what Meena's greatest weakness is, she cited her obsession with collecting trophies.

"She's got loads, but I think her greatest weakness in terms of her getting caught is the fact that she has this fascination with… when she's killed someone, when she's committed that crime, she needs to still be involved in it," said Paige. "She wants to take complete ownership of that crime and so watching people's reaction to that death and taking the token and being around those people.

"She's normally very clever and the fact that she's taken tokens from people and keeps them in a box and keeps herself around those people isn't very clever. She's like a moth to a flame and she can't draw herself away from that fire, even though it will eventually burn her."

*Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with additional episodes at 8pm on Thursdays
