Emmerdale's Matthew Wolfenden reveals sick paedo storyline will take even 'darker turn'

Emmerdale viewers have been watching with horror as paedophile Maya Stepney grooms the schoolboy son of her boyfriend, David Metcalfe.

Unbeknown to David, the predatory teacher has manipulated his teenage step-son Jacob Gallagher into becoming her lover, bedding him in hotels and the village hall.

Now actor Matthew Wolfenden, who plays the unsuspecting David, has revealed the sickening storyline is set to get even worse.

And as a father of two with another on the way, the star admits the forthcoming plotline has left him struggling.

"At the moment for me it’s not too difficult as David doesn’t have a clue that it’s going on behind his back. He’s naïve to it and he thinks his relationship is going really well, but I’ve just read some scripts of when things take a turn for the worst and that will all be quite emotional," he tells this week's OK! magazine .

"That’s when it’s going to be difficult for me. The storyline’s set to get darker which will be hard to play, particularly because I’m a dad."

Matthew, 38, has sons Buster, eight, and Bowie, three, with fellow Emmerdale star Charley Webb (Debbie Dingle).

And they recently confirmed they're expecting baby number three in July, with Matthew admitting they can't wait for the 'chaos'.

"We’ve always wanted a big family. It feels different this time as it feels like we’re going from a family to a gang. We’re looking forward to the chaos another child will bring," said the star.

The couple delivered the happy news to their sons on Christmas Day, when Charley was 11 weeks pregnant.

And while they've decided not to find out the gender to give their kids a big surprise, Charley says she has an inkling.

"Buster was so desperate for Bowie to be a boy and he was, so it would be nice to have that same thing for Bowie. It doesn’t matter to me at all,"

"I’m used to boys and I always thought I’d have three boys and a girl, in that order. That’s my instinct but who knows!" she added.
