Emmerdale's Matthew Wolfenden forced to apologise on This Morning after being lured into sharing 'spoiler'

Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden found himself lured into sharing a spoiler after appearing on Tuesday's This Morning.

He found himself apologising to bosses at the ITV soap after supposedly sharing his character's fate.

The long-time Emmerdale regular, who plays David Metcalfe, had a chat with This Morning's Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield about the latest drama in the Dales.

According to the Manchester Evening News, viewers are well aware that one character will be killed in scenes to air this week at the hands of David's girlfriend Meena Julta.

Emmerdale's latest villain is set to claim her first victim in a horrific attack that will cause awful heartache and change lives forever.

Fans might know the soon-to-be killer, but the victim is not yet been known and despite being her boyfriend, not even Matthew's character David is safe.

Phillip joked: "How long’s your contract?" in an attempt to try get him to spill the beans on the potential victim.

The star replied, reiterating the line used by Emmerdale's boss, Kate Brooks: "I don’t know! If there’s a serial killer in the village, no one is safe,"

He laughed: "We've all got to be on our best behaviour."

Holly went on to explain fan theories and their worries for David's life but Matthew soon added: "I'm glad they are worried, me too. I can’t tell you who it’s going to be."

However, the hosts were not letting him get away likely, challenging him over his character's fate and whilst he almost got away with keeping shtum, it wasn't to be.

Holly asked what he thought of fans' suggestion that David may team up with Meena in the murder plot.

Matthew said: "I like the idea, I don’t think it will happen,"

"The problem with murdering on a soap is you’re never going to last very long on there.

"You can’t be a serial killer or a serial killer’s right-hand man without there being a sticky end.

"I’m hoping that’s not going to happen."

Catching on to his answer, Phillip declared: "He’s not dead! You fell into that hole, not us."

Red-faced Matthew agreed: "I did, I’m sorry, sorry Emmerdale, I tried."

However, as Holly suggested, Matthew could have been giving a "massive double bluff".
