Emmerdale's Mark Charnock pays heartbreaking tribute to late on-screen son Harry

Emmerdale actor Mark Charnock has paid a heartbreaking tribute to his on-screen son on what would have been his 10th birthday.

Harry Whittaker, who played Leo Dingle in the ITV show, was just three years old when he died in 2014 from chronic lung disease.

Mark, who stars as Leo's dad Marlon Dingle, took to Twitter to mark the day by sharing an adorable picture of Harry, who had Down's syndrome, wearing a Spiderman costume.

He tweeted: "On what would have been his 10th birthday, thinking of this little Spider-Man today.

"Thinking of the joy he brought to everyone he encountered and of his giddy laughter.

"Thinking of our prince Harry with love and happy memories. Xxx."

Harry, who was the nephew of Jodie Whittaker, stole viewers' hearts when he starred in Emmerdale.

He tragically died almost seven years ago.

Harry had filmed his last scenes as Leo just weeks before he passed away.

His last appearance as Leo was broadcast on July 11 2014, ten days after Harry died.

An Emmerdale spokesman said at the time: "Very sadly we can confirm Harry Whittaker's passing.

"We will all miss him greatly and have offered our sincerest condolences to his family at this very sad time."

The show then paid tribute to Harry at the end of an episode by putting a picture of him at the credits.

"For Harry, with love," the tribute read.
