Emmerdale's Lisa Riley celebrates five years sober and tells how her life has improved after giving up booze

Lisa Riley is celebrating five years sober and has told how ditching booze has improved her life in a candid post.

Emmerdale's Mandy Dingle was in the mood to celebrate as she shared some frank words with her followers on Instagram.

She told how she's been five years sober, which equates to 60 months, 1827 days, 43848 hours, 263,0880 minutes and 157852800 seconds.

The 44-year-old actress from Bury told fans how being alcohol free has improved her life including banishing the feeling of paranoia the morning after.

"CELEBRATION," she boldly began her inspirational post.

"Wow FIVE years ago today I drank my last drop of alcohol.

"I wouldn’t change it for ANYTHING, my life is so much clearer, happier, gained more glow, laugh so much harder, having the life I always dreamt of, no fake friendships, needing that someone who NEVER knows when to go home, not cringing when I open my eyes (have I argued with anyone) not remembering, that’s the WORST, maybe, well not actually maybe, CERTAINLY.

"If you can’t remember it’s REALLY time to fully STOP!!! Living on stories from the past ... they are done, they happened, move forward."

She added: "And also just live the rest of your life free from all that is fake and false, have personal awareness that the ones you have around you, whilst boozing are more than likely around for the wrong reasons, because YOU are paying for the alcohol."

Lisa went on to tell her followers that she's proud to have turned her back on alcohol.

Lisa was praised for her awareness-raising post by fans who also shared their own stories.

"Been around seven years for me gave up for all same reasons you did," said one.

"The anxiety and paranoia was awful and my whole attitude changed why was I filling my body with poison while trying to live health and fitness lifestyle it made no sense. Good for you."

"Well done. 15 months for me and no going back," said another.

And another told her: "Amazing, well done. It’s been 19 years for me. Have not looked back."

Lisa has previously said she hid her grief 'behind a bottle of wine' after losing her mum Cath to cancer but now has a sense of freedom in zero booze.

The soap star, who was a semi-finalist on Strictly Come Dancing in 2012, began losing weight in 2015 and plunged from a size 28 to a size 12, losing 12 stone in 18 months.
