In Monday's episode of Coronation Street, Maria Connor, played by Samia Longchambon, was seen hitting out at the council's decision to replace a local field with a new bypass.
Mum-of-one Maria, whose asthmatic son Liam uses the fields to play football, was left reeling by the new construction plans when her husband Gary told her the bad news.
The long-standing character demanded action from local politicians while decrying air pollution, referencing “climate emergency”.
It came as Gary showed his wife a clip from Emmerdale of grieving dad Liam in his new allotment on social media.
Meanwhile in Hollyoaks, Nate was seen showing Ripley a news story of Maria’s protest against air pollution.
In the Dales, a reference to Hollyoaks was made during Monday's episode, viewers saw Liam slam Cindy Cunningham for her lack of sustainability in her fashion choices.
Emmerdale's executive producer Jane Hudson originally conceived the collaboration, several months worth of planning and meetings between the respective soaps went into the story line crossover.
The scriptwriting team for each soap were challenged to incorporate the other shows within their own storylines to feature in the cross over.
Glasgow is the home of the world leaders for the Cop26 climate summit.
