Emmerdale's Katie Hill 'so pleased' ITV soap is 'revisiting Sarah's dramatic past'

Emmerdale actress Katie Hill has opened up about Sarah Sugden's upcoming storyline on the ITV soap.

In upcoming scenes Sarah will collapse at home after struggling for breath.

The teen is left in a state as she grows anxious following the sudden passing of 18-year-old Leanna Cavanagh, while Sarah has had a long history of ill health since she was a child.

Sarah has been in and out of hospital since she was very young, battling cancer and other life-threatening illnesses for most of her life.

In 2011, six-year-old Sarah was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease called Fanconi anaemia, and she needed a bone marrow transplant to save her life.

Later in the year, Sarah took a turn for the worse and began developing leukaemia.

Her brother Jack was born that same month, and he proved to be a match.

In 2017, Sarah was revealed to have throat cancer. After a crowdfunding campaign and help from Debbie's grandmother Faith Dingle, Sarah received treatment in Prague.

While waiting for a transplant, a hospitalised Sarah suffered from a virus but eventually a transplant was found for her and she underwent surgery.

Since then Sarah has been doing well, but she has often shared her fears that she will not live a long and healthy life due to her illness.

The recent death of Leanna reminds her of how short life can be, and with her great-grandmother Faith Dingle also fearing she could be seriously ill Sarah is left anxious.

A year later she suddenly collapsed and was confirmed to be suffering from heart failure, as a side effect of chemotherapy.

Speaking to Inside Soap magazine, actress Katie said: "I'm so pleased that Emmerdale is revisiting Sarah's dramatic past.

"Sarah has a very problematic medical history, and doctors have told her that she might have a shortened life.

"So with Leanna dying and Granny Faith's mystery illness all her fears are definitely heightened... she's consumed by utter fear.

"Sarah is determined to learn about (her donor family), and I can tell you that she's really determined.

"Sarah starts investigating things for herself, and she does find someone in the family who agrees to meet her," Katie, 18, added.

Although Sarah has got someone from the family to meet her, will she be able to stop fearing that she will die young? Or will Cain and Belle talk her out of meeting them?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
