Emmerdale's Jurell Carter under fire as he slams soap for promoting Covid vaccine

Emmerdale's Jurell Carter has slammed the ITV soap for running a storyline about the coronavirus vaccine.

The soap star, who plays Nate Robinson, falsely called the Covid jab "experimental" and accused his own show of pushing people to have it - despite overwhelming evidence to prove it is safe.

The coronavirus vaccines have gone through vigorous testing to ensure they are safe and cannot give you Covid from getting them, while serious side effects, such as allergic reactions, are very rare.

In Emmerdale, Eric Pollard, who is played by Chris Chittell, will get the vaccine, making it the first time a British soap has had a character vaccinated in a storyline.

Taking to his Instagram Stories, Jurell hit back at what he sees as the pressure for everyone to get the vaccine, hinting that he himself won't be getting it when it's his turn to be called.

He wrote: "If you wanna take this EXPERIMENTAL vaccine, go ahead but don't start pushing people to take it or start promoting it.

"I'm even seeing others demonising others for not wanting it."

He continued his rant: "Your body, your decision, my body, my decision.

"The blind leading the blind.

"And I'm not here for it."

The Mirror has contacted ITV and is awaiting comment.

Eric Pollard will get his Covid vaccine in scenes set to air next month on ITV.

Actor Chris Chittell is 72 years old, making him part of the latest group of people who have been called forward to get their first dose of the jab.
