Emmerdale's Isobel Steele spills the beans on soap's destructive storm for 50th anniversary

Isobel Steele has given a hint about what to expect from Emmerdale’s huge month of celebrations for the show’s 50th anniversary.

As fans of Emmerdale know, the famous ITV soap will be having a month of major storylines in October to mark the milestone. We already know some major characters will be returning to Emmerdale while a mammoth storm will hit the village turning the lives of many of our soap faves upside down.

Isobel Steel, who plays Liv Flaherty, has spoken to Inside Soap about filming and her involvement in the upcoming storylines. Of course, she can’t give too much away but still there’s a few teasers for viewers.

Discussing the storm, Isobel said: “I love anything different from the normal day at work - so it has been really fun. The wind machines are so loud and we have these clip-on holders for earplugs as we can’t hear what anyone is saying.

“You have to really think about the timing of when you say a line - we’re all winging it. There are trees smashed everywhere in the village - it looks derelict. It’s just going to be amazing.”

We’ve previously reported what the Emmerdale bosses think about the storm storyline. Producer Kate Brooks said: “In terms of what we are doing, it is unprecedented, there’s elements of the big storm which I’ve not seen in a soap before. It is exciting and nerve-racking to be part of that. Hopefully, it will all be brilliant and fantastic to watch.”

Emmerdale boss Jane Hudson added: “It is fair to say every story has been done in soaps. We always come at it from a place of ‘how do we make it feel different?’. One of the things we were keen to do was make sure this storm is in the daytime so you can actually see what is happening and what is going on.

“The whole storm takes place across one day, across three or four episodes. It is all in the daytime, it is very much a wind storm rather than a rain storm. We’ve got some amazing wind machines being tested at the moment which are epic.”
